Blaby Solar Farm was constructed on arable land, approximately 4 miles south of Leicester. The site comprises of a single field belonging to a small family farm. ESCO were the developer for the solar farm responsible for all processes from identifying the site, through planning, to start of construction.
The site was adjacent to water treatment works, one residential property and a small business centre. The planning approval involved 2 planning authorities and a wayleave from the local council for use of the site access and to accommodate the grid connection.
Biodiversity improvements are included on the site together with some planting to reinforce the screening.
Both planning approvals were given under delegated powers. The solar farm is the only utility scale wind or solar renewable generator in the Borough of Oadby and Wigston.
